The claims are located at the eastern portion of Slate Ridge, which is well known for high grade lode gold and silver deposits. The claims are split into the upper and lower mattress sets. Both sets offer an ideal small to large processing plant activities. We suggest picking up both claims sets, acquiring a Notice of Intent permit and start your mining project. You could be up and running within a month. These deposits contain excellent, economic gold. Typical results from a single grab bucket from material on bedrock are shown in the photos below. We have not performed any bulk tests on the deposits, but there are reports of other people who have and they recovered as much as a few grams per yard from selected and targeted spots and an ounce from six bobcat scoops. Hand prospecting in the bedrocks cracks aways reveals gold. The upper claims should be worked with heavy equipment and a wash plant, whereas the lower claims can be worked by hand or with heavy equipment as well. The upper claims secure some of the Tertiary deposits, as well as the alluvial gravels immediately down wash. Historic dozer cuts in the upper claims reveal gravel thicknesses greater than 12 feet in multiple places. Bedrock is a soft Tertiary volcanic ash that is fractured and easily worked with a backhoe. There are some fractures and swales in the bedrock that make for good gold traps. There are several good locations for a processing plant. The lower mattress set secures the main drainage that comes off the Tertiary gravel deposit and follows it down into Oriental Wash. Some of the tributaries to the main wash erode upland highgrade deposits on Slate Ridge, including the Silver Princess Mine that has several one ounce-per-ton gold veins. Deposit thickness is between 2 – 10 feet deep in the main drainage and the adjacent alluvial fans are likely greater than 20 feet thick. The drainage canyon above Oriental Wash has several great sniping targets. The gold is primarily fine grained and nuggets as large as 2.3 grams have been recovered. We recommend a vibrating screen deck with trommel and sluice. Previous prospectors used drywashers with good success. There is abundant black sand and a magnetic separator would make clean-ups easier. Water can be acquired either from Gold Point or other nearby wells, therefore, a water truck and plastic-lined ponds for recirculation would be necessary. These claims are situation on federal lands managed by the BLM. Esmeralda County is an ideal place to conduct a mining project as it has no permitting department. There are no special species or sensitive habitat issues on Slate Ridge. The BLM is easy to work with in this district and Notice of Intents are usually returned within 15-20 days and the paperwork for the Reclamation Bond takes about 2 weeks. Plans of Operations would required for any large operation. Access to the claims is via an Esmeralda County maintained road from Gold Point (4.5 miles away). Weather is ideal and few people travel into this area. Please do not test these claims without permission. The walk back to town is not pleasant. We watch these claims very closely. It is a non-patented federal mining claim. Fees are current and you will need to file appropriate paperwork to hold the property every year thereafter.
