River of Gold #1 Mining Claim

60 Acres

CAMC #0291589
Plumas County Records #2007-0010159Sold

This claim offers a wide variety of attributes that beckons opportunity abound. It has 4wd access from the Yellow Creek Road to a nice camp site at the edge of a nineteenth-century stacked-stone flume (non-operational), with the creek just a short walk away. The bedrock is meta-volcanic andesite of the Shoe Fly Fm. Mineralized up-drainage rocks include these volcanic rocks plus marine sediments and undifferentiated Triassic marine and volcanic rocks. The Melones fault or contact with the Feather River ultramafic belt is a short distance down stream.

The creek enters the property along a dog-leg right bend that has exposed bedrock and clay ledges. Some recent sniping has been explored here. The stream gradient briefly declines into a meadow where recent flood deposits have covered older alluvium to a depth of 2-3 feet. The stream then bends back around to the east, flowing around a debris of numerous boulders that tumbled from higher elevations. Some of these boulders are truck-sized and have never been moved. An abandoned flood channel exists on the inside bend that is littered with large boulders just waiting to be moved. The creek leaves the claim along a straight shoot that is littered with large boulders. High-bank opportunities present themselves with numerous locations of tree roots in remnant terrace deposits.
