Conquistador Placer #3 |
Conquistador Placer #3 ±100 Acres BLM CAMC #pending Price: $5,500 or Conquistador Placer #1, #2, & #3 Price: $12,000 Spanish Creek is legendary for gold and open placer mining claims are always a good find. The auriferous Tertiary gravel deposits piled thick gravel deposits throughout its headwaters that were amazingly rich. Miners armed with long toms, rockers and hydraulic hoses extensively mined the massive deposits for their fortunes. It was a true bonanza. People that still prospecting along Spanish Creek's reaches say that the old timers did not get it all and there is much to be mined. The Conquistador Placer #3 placer claim has a long section of the drainage just down from the Tertiary deposits and much of the gravel consists of quartz-rounded rocks. It is located in the upper-most reaches of Spanish Creek on the north side of the Bucks Lake granodiorite pluton that intruded into Shoe Fly Formation sediments and the legendary Melones Fault (the contact between metasediments and serpentine). The Melones Fault has been the source for HUGE pockets of gold not only here but elsewhere in Sierra Nevada Mountains. Other famous high-grade mines along this fault include the Sixteen-to-One Mine, the Red Leaf Mine, and more. This hot Bucks Lake granitic intrusion remobilized the gold and distributed it throughout the country rock in quartz veins. Hardrock mines are numerous surrounding this intrusion. Just over the ridge to the northwest is the Virgilia Mining District - one of the richest in California. Rich Gulch and Rush Creeks drain that portion of the fault. On the southern reach of the Bucks Lake pluton is the Granite Basin (Boulder Creek, etc.), which are also extremely rich in gold. The gold is bright and plentiful! It is both rounded (Tertiary gravel source) and chunky (nearby bedrock source). The claim attributes are:
The creek dries up in the late part of the season. These pictures were taken in October and show just a few pools of water. However, in the spring time, this drainage is gushing! Check out the pictures of the flood terraces. There are a number of gravel bars, large boulders and ledges that will provide many opportunities. High bankers will have a field day with all the opportunities adjacent to the creek. Finding nuggets using a metal detector in the surrounding terrain has been proven to be successful for modern day treasure hunters. Hence, the prospecting skills required are recreational to intermediate. Advanced miners who like to tackle the smaller creeks will equally enjoy this claim's abundant opportunities. It is a slight walk to the claim from the National Forest Service road, but if you stay on contour, it is relatively easy. Remember, if you can drive to the stream's edge, other prospectors have been there before you. So this 80-acre claim has good potential for finding new pockets of gold missed by the ol' timers. There is good camp site at several of the pull-outs along the National Forest Service road. This road is not suitable for motor homes. It is just a bit too bumpy and it narrows in a few places. There are a number of tent camping spots on the claim, one dandy one is shown in the photos. Use the maps and GPS coordinates provided to locate the claim. Miners and prospectors will have a life-time of opportunities before this claim is played out. Quincy is only 14 miles away and provides good amenities, such as restaurants and accommodations. Quincy also has a modest nightlife, a movie theater, a Safeway and an Ace Hardware, as well as a series of motels and B&Bs. This spot is one of a kind and you will want to add this claim to your portfolio. It is remote, quiet and safe. Conquistador Placer #3 Claim Georeferences
